Erica Murphy described her fiancé’s proposal on a piece of paper by saying, “I looked at this piece of paper, and I just smiled and said, ‘Monta, you’re so adorable’ because I think it was really heartfelt.”

An Atlanta news anchor, Erica Murphy, is addressing the varied responses on social media to her marriage proposal. On April 30, she shared a picture of a ring box with a handwritten note that said, “Will You Marry Me?” displayed beside it.

Murphy tweeted that her partner left it for her to find in the bathroom before she left for work, and she said yes. She also added the hashtag #FutureMrsHomes.

Despite the joyful news, some social media users criticized the proposal’s execution, while others defended the couple’s right to their own preferences.

Erica Murphy shared with Today that while it can be entertaining to witness someone else’s proposal go viral, it’s a distinct experience when it’s happening to you.

Erica Murphy wanted to clarify that her now-fiancé, Monta Homes, had put thought and effort into his proposal. “This man flew in from Detroit to do this.

This wasn’t an afterthought,” she explained. Murphy recounted the days leading up to the proposal, which involved her covering a Confederate memorial event for work and feeling emotionally drained from the experience.

She recalled feeling irritated when Homes made noise in the bathroom 30 minutes before she had to wake up for work at 5 a.m. and said, “I was just so irritated. It was a carryover irritation from before.”

As per Today, Homes had planned the proposal carefully, knowing that Murphy would go into the bathroom to clean up after him. He tore a piece of paper from his study notebook and wrote the proposal on it.

“This is the type of person I am. I want to catch her when she least expected it,” Homes shared. Despite some criticism on social media, Homes is satisfied with his choice of proposal. “I know other people wanted me to get the blimp with ‘the world is yours’ and all that other stuff. But that’s just, I mean, I could have done that. But I like this better,” he said.

For Murphy, the proposal was very touching and heartfelt, and she still keeps the piece of paper as a reminder of the moment. “Monta, you’re so adorable,” she said with a smile.
