Working at Starbucks is not always as glamorous as it may seem. A recent video of a barista in tears has gone viral, shedding light on the challenges faced by these hardworking individuals. The video, shared on social media, has sparked a conversation about scheduling, staffing issues, and the lack of support from management.
In the emotional video, the barista, who is also a student, expressed frustration with their workload. They mentioned working 25 hours a week and having to endure 8-hour shifts on weekends. The barista described feeling overwhelmed by the long hours and the lack of staffing. They revealed that on that particular day, only four people were scheduled to work, and someone had called out, leaving them to handle a busy shift alone.
The barista also shared their disappointment with the lack of support from management. They mentioned that managers seemed indifferent to the challenges faced by the staff and refused to lend a helping hand. In fact, one manager even removed themselves from the shift, avoiding any responsibility.
This dedicated Starbucks employee also highlighted instances of mistreatment by customers. As a transgender individual, the barista expressed frustration with being misgendered and the lack of accommodations for their neurodivergence. They revealed that it had become too much to handle and they were at their wits’ end with the job.
The video struck a chord with many viewers, especially other young workers who understand the struggle of juggling work and education. One comment read, “This kiddo is in class 15 hours a week, has 30 hours of homework, and then 25 hours of work. That’s a 70-hour week! We need to support them, not bully them!”
The barista’s concerns were also supported by others who acknowledged the common practice of understaffing in coffee shops and the exploitation of workers. It is clear that the toxic work environment extends beyond Starbucks and is prevalent in many industries.
Criticism was directed towards older generations who often downplay the struggles faced by younger workers. Commenters expressed their frustration, stating that older generations claim to want what is best for the younger generation but fail to acknowledge the need for improvement.
The video serves as a reminder that behind every service worker’s smile, there may be hidden challenges and frustrations. It is essential to empathize with and support these hardworking individuals who often face demanding work schedules, customer mistreatment, and a lack of support from management.
