Natalie Suleman, famously known as “Octomom,” captured the world’s attention in 2009 when she gave birth to the first surviving octuplets. Already a mother of six, her family grew to an astounding 14 children. Today, let’s take a look at what the last 15 years have been like for this remarkable family.
A Triumph Amidst Controversy
Octomom’s journey to motherhood was not without controversy. She underwent in-vitro fertilization (IVF), with Dr. Michael Kamrava overseeing the procedures. Despite the ethical discussions surrounding her multiple pregnancies, eight of the twelve embryos implanted by Dr. Kamrava developed into live births.
Suleman later expressed that she had not agreed to such a large number of embryos, claiming that she was misled while medicated. Although Dr. Kamrava denied these allegations, his medical license was ultimately revoked in 2011 for “gross negligence.”
From Fame to Financial Struggles
Octomom’s newfound fame led her on an unconventional career path as she sought to support her large family. Stripping, appearing in an adult film, and participating in boxing matches were just a few of the avenues she explored. Notably, she also posed for a PETA campaign advocating for the spaying and neutering of animals.
However, financial hardships persisted, leading Octomom to file for bankruptcy in 2012 due to her $1 million in debt. In 2014, she faced additional challenges when she was charged with welfare fraud for failing to report $26,000 of income. Suleman pled no contest and received probation, community service, and a mandate to repay the unreported funds.
Stepping Away from the Spotlight
Despite the difficulties she faced, Octomom has since chosen a quieter life for herself and her children. In 2018, she revealed that she was working full-time as a counselor, occasionally participating in international photoshoots to make ends meet. Public assistance has also played a role in supporting her family.
Octomom has been open with her children about their past, highlighting the importance of leaving fame behind in order to rebuild a stable and authentic life. The octuplets recently celebrated their 15th birthday, and Suleman shared her pride on Instagram, emphasizing the qualities she values in her children – being true to themselves, humble, kind, and honest.
Embracing a Quieter Existence
Today, Octomom is focused on raising her family and is grateful for the love they share and the lessons learned from their challenging journey. While her story continues to spark interest, she has chosen a path away from the public eye. Her priority is providing her children with a stable and nurturing environment.
