Incredible Friendship and Courage: College Wrestler Rescues Friend from Grizzly Bear Attack

College wrestler saves friend's life after they're mauled by grizzly bear with their teammates

College is a time of exploration and carefree fun, but for a group of college wrestlers from Utah, it turned into a life-or-death situation involving a grizzly bear. This harrowing incident showcased the remarkable bravery and loyalty of these young men. Let’s delve into the incredible story of one college wrestler who went above and beyond to save his friend’s life.

It all happened when Brady Lowry, Kendell Cummings, Orin Jackson, and August Harrison, who attend Northwest College, were out antler hunting. As the day grew late, Brady and Kendell decided to separate from the group for a few moments to search for sheds. Little did they know that this split second decision would lead to a near-fatal encounter.

As they were searching, Brady noticed bear excrement and immediately warned Kendell that there was a grizzly bear nearby. Without warning, the bear emerged from the willows, charging and tackling Brady off a cliff into a gulley. The bear viciously attacked, shaking and injuring Brady, leaving him in grave danger. But in that moment of terror, Kendell showed remarkable courage and loyalty.

Refusing to abandon his friend, Kendell yelled at the bear, drawing its attention away from Brady. When the bear continued its assault, Kendell kicked it and grabbed its fur, redirecting its aggression towards himself. The bear mauled Kendell as well, leaving him with severe injuries to his head and body. Miraculously, both Brady and Kendell managed to escape the bear’s clutches and seek help.

Despite the injuries they sustained, Kendell managed to make his way back to his teammates, bleeding profusely. The group, thankful to still be together, supported and cared for each other until help arrived. Kendell was airlifted to a hospital in Montana, while Brady was first taken to a hospital in Wyoming before being transferred to the same Montana hospital.

Reflecting on the incident, the young men shared that they were carrying bear spray but had no opportunity to use it given the suddenness of the attack. They credit their survival to the tight bond they share as a wrestling team and believe that a higher power was watching over them during the traumatic ordeal.

This heartwarming story showcases the strength of friendship in the face of unimaginable danger. The enduring bond between these young men is truly remarkable.
