Former President Donald Trump found himself in legal hot water once again as he encountered further legal challenges on Thursday. Trump was charged with several offenses, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of an official proceeding, in connection to the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. These charges compound the legal troubles that Trump is currently grappling with.

Trump made an appearance at the Elijah Barrett Prettyman Federal Courthouse in Washington, D.C., where he entered a plea of not guilty. However, prior to the hearing, Manhattan federal prosecutors gained access to a video deposition from an unrelated case involving Trump.

In that particular lawsuit, Trump was held responsible for sexual abuse and defamation and was ordered to pay $5 million in damages. The prosecutors intend to utilize this video testimony in Trump’s upcoming criminal trial in March 2024, where he stands accused of orchestrating a hush-money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Earlier in March, Trump was indicted in the Stormy Daniels case on 34 felony charges of falsifying business records. Despite pleading not guilty, Trump has consistently maintained his innocence, alleging that the investigations against him are politically motivated. He refers to them as a “witch hunt” orchestrated by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Although unrelated, federal prosecutors sought access to Trump’s video deposition from the previous case because they believe it sheds light on his alleged efforts to silence Stormy Daniels. Trump’s legal team argued that the evidence from the previous case should be kept confidential under a protective order.

These recent developments only add to the legal obstacles that former President Trump is confronting. As he navigates several court cases and defends himself against various allegations, his legal journey continues.
