Baby Manushi, from Rajasthan, India, has quickly gained the title of a little miracle. Born prematurely via C-section when her mother, Seeta, was only 28 weeks into her pregnancy, Manushi faced a challenging battle for survival. Due to Seeta’s high blood pressure, doctors determined that her baby was not receiving enough blood through the placenta.
When Manushi entered the world, she weighed a mere 14 ounces. The odds seemed stacked against her because she was extremely tiny and her organs, including her lungs, brain, heart, and kidneys, were underdeveloped. However, against all expectations, she proved to be a fighter, defying the odds with her strength and determination.
For the next six months, Manushi received intensive care in the neonatal unit. Gradually, her organs developed to the point where she could finally be discharged from the hospital. At the time of her release, she weighed 5.2 pounds, a remarkable improvement considering her fragile start.
From the moment she was born, Manushi relied on a ventilator to breathe, and her chances of survival were initially less than 1 percent. But with the care and dedication of her doctors, she overcame every obstacle in her path.
Due to her underdeveloped gut, Manushi couldn’t be fed conventionally. Instead, doctors provided her with the vital nutrients she needed through intravenous administration. However, at seven weeks old, she reached a significant milestone when she was able to start breastfeeding. This marked the beginning of her journey towards breathing independently and the progressive growth of her organs.
The doctors involved in Manushi’s care were determined to save her life and send a message that the lives of female children are just as valuable as those of males. Dr. Sunil Janged, the hospital director, explained, “We decided to save the life of the infant and give her necessary medical care and attention because we wanted to send out a message that a girl child must be protected.” Through their dedication and support, they successfully conveyed this message.
While Manushi’s journey was undoubtedly challenging, she isn’t alone in her survival story. Records indicate that Emilia Grabarczyk, born in 2015 in Wittenberg, Germany, weighing just 8 ounces, currently holds the title of the world’s lightest surviving baby.
We can only imagine the bright future that lies ahead for Baby Manushi. Her incredible strength and resilience have inspired us all. Let’s share her inspiring story with our loved ones, spreading hope and celebrating the power of determination.
