A Father’s Love: Protecting His Daughter at All Costs

In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded on August 2, 2018, a 41-year-old Phoenix father took matters into his own hands to protect his daughter. Melvin Harris, originally charged with second-degree murder, pleaded to manslaughter and his sentencing is scheduled for December 13.

It all started when Harris arrived at the QT near 19th and Dunlap avenues. As his daughter emerged from the restroom, she revealed that a man had attempted to enter her locked stall in the women’s bathroom. Understandably furious and concerned for his daughter’s safety, Harris took immediate action.

After alerting security, Harris led them to the man his daughter had pointed out. But instead of leaving it up to them, Harris bravely stated that he would handle the situation himself.

Eyewitnesses reported that Harris confronted the man, named Leon Armstrong, and delivered a powerful punch to his face, causing him to fall to the ground. Harris didn’t stop there – he continued to defend his daughter by physically engaging with Armstrong. In the end, Armstrong suffered a severe brain injury and tragically passed away a few days later.

We can empathize with Harris’ instincts as a father to protect his child. It’s an instinct that many parents understand and share. However, the consequences of his actions have led to a manslaughter charge.

No matter the outcome of his sentencing, it is clear that Harris’ intentions were rooted in love and protection for his daughter. This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the unwavering bond between a parent and their child.
