Sadie and Jarvis Sampson’s journey to parenthood was not an easy one. After struggling with infertility for years, they found themselves at a crossroads. But then, a text message changed everything.
For 14 months, Sadie and Jarvis tried everything they could think of to conceive. They tried ovulation tests, prenatal vitamins, and fertility monitors. They sought advice from friends, family, and even strangers. But month after month, the pregnancy tests showed negative results. It seemed like they were running out of options.
Desperate for answers, Sadie and Jarvis consulted doctors, hoping for a solution. But much to their disappointment, the doctors offered little help. They advised Sadie to lose weight, believing it could increase her chances of conceiving. With no other options in sight, Sadie decided to undergo gastric surgery and successfully lost 28 pounds.
Sadie’s OBGYN was thrilled with her weight loss and expressed her pride. She also assured Sadie that if she wasn’t pregnant within six months, she would refer her to a fertility specialist. This small glimmer of hope gave the couple renewed optimism. But despite their efforts, pregnancy still eluded them.
Feeling defeated, Sadie began to accept the idea that they might never have biological children of their own. They believed their destiny was to be loving aunt and uncle to their nieces and godparents to their goddaughters.
Just when they had given up hope, a text message arrived that would change their lives forever. A friend asked if they would consider fostering a baby whose parents were seeking treatment. Though hesitant at first, the couple agreed. Little did they know, their temporary role as foster parents would soon turn into a lifelong commitment.
The birth mother decided that she wanted Sadie and Jarvis to adopt the baby instead. It was a moment of pure happiness and disbelief for the couple. They went from not having any children to becoming parents overnight. The news was overwhelming, but they embraced the joyous opportunity.
Their baby boy, born premature at 33 weeks, was a tiny 4 lbs., 5 oz. He fit into the palm of his father’s hand, wrapped in a white blanket with pink and blue stripes. Despite his challenging start, he was undeniably cute.
Sadie and Jarvis shared their exciting news on social media and were showered with love and support. Their friends and followers encouraged them to create a registry for baby items. Within just three days, 55 gifts had been purchased for their growing family.
In October 2020, the adoption of their baby boy, Ezra Lee, was finalized. The couple celebrated this milestone with adorable family photos, proudly wearing t-shirts that proclaimed, “Families don’t have to match.” The message was clear: love transcends appearances.
But the family’s journey didn’t end there. In 2021, Sadie and Jarvis welcomed twin girls, Journee and Destinee, through embryo donation. These three beautiful white children joined their black parents, strengthening their belief that families come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
To those who may judge their non-traditional family, Sadie and Jarvis have a simple response: their family is built on the unshakeable foundation of love. Their story is an inspiration to us all and a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
